Not to mention the all time low when Rome 2 got first released. While the AI has always been terrible I find that with the Empire engine it has gotten worse, Shogun 2 the AI is just godawfull and entire armies can be beat with but two bow units and a decent general. You can also blow a whole in your own wall and the AI will most likely trow most of its army trough it, making it also easy to counter. Have them on canister shot with some decent refile man protecting them from the walls and you will slaughter entire armies before they even touch the walls. All of a sudden the AI will stop and care not about assaulting the fort and will go straight for your cannon(s). You already pointed out his stupidity with his calvary.Īlso when defending a siege, try placing a cannon infront of the walls. Also in Empire the AI has a terrible habbit of not attacking with all units and leave one or more behind in a random location usually behind a fense or something. Secondly, ones you figured out the AI it is really easy to bait out units. Perhaps the biggest complaint I have with CAI is that the bigger you get, the more everyone hates you. I am no expert on CAI, I agree that its hard for me to grasp where the hell the AI is sending its stacks but at least the occasional naval invasion does occur.

That you cannot repair damaged forts is not part of the thread topic. Sure, sometimes a few guys tend to get stuck near a fort wall and its hard to kill them, but that doesnt happen often.

Enemy units scale walls and try to outmaneuver you by running past the wall section you are heavily defending etc. Sieges generally tend to be buggy in every TW game, but here too things work: the AI bunches its cavalry around the flag in the middle if you are the attacker, or stays behind until the walls are breached if you are the defender. Infantry advance in order if a unit can hide behind a wall it usually does light infantry mount their wooden spikes, and so on. I dont see it to be worse than other (older) TW games of its time.Įnemy cavalry do suicide charges, ok thats the only issue, but otherwise they stay near artillery protecting it.
